LEDs bring several advantages to the lighting industry, including high efficacy and durability, and, with superior life over other lamp sources, their required maintenance is greatly reduced. This translates into energy savings, maintenance savings, and environmental sustainability. There is also the potential for greater optical control (more controllable source), dimming, instant on/off, and reduced rate of lumen depreciation (potential for long application life).

19、Why do LEDs use such little power?
LEDs do not use a filament where a conductor is heated and light is created. Filament based lighting consumes more power than the light produced. LEDs produce very little amounts of heat and do not use filaments making them far more efficient in consumption and output.
20、How long do LEDs last?
LEDs are rated by manufacturers to operate under normal conditions for approximately 5 years or 50,000 hours of continuous use. As LEDs get older, they tend to dim and fade but aren't susceptible to blinking like incandescent or fluorescents.
21、 Aren't all LEDs the same?
No. LEDs, LED profile light, and LED lighting systems are quite different in design and quality. A good LED lamp or system design is much more efficient than incandescent or compact fluorescent lighting. Unfortunately, most LED lighting available for consumers today is of marginal quality and expensive. Poorly designed luminaries can be relatively inefficient, fail, or deliver poor light characteristics.
22、 Will LED lighting become more efficient over time?
Yes. Even today we are experimenting with LEDs that are generating close to 150 lumens per watt. We can expect to see such LED light sources on the market within the next 5 years.
23、 When I buy LED, should I buy based on watts or lumens?
Always buy based on lumens, watts is a number that is used to determine how much energy it takes to produce those lumens. It is important to pay attention to lumens per watt, or lm/w. The higher the number, the less energy you will need to produce the light. You will notice that some lights take less energy to produce the same amount of light, and this is something you should watch for. Typically, the higher the ratio, the better.
24、 What is CRI?
CRI is Color Rendering Index. It is a measurement of the quality of light. Where as lumens is a measurement of the quantity of light, CRI is the measurement of quality. It is a scale between 0 and 100. 0 is bad, 100 is great. LED's typically are in the 70-95 range. The higher the CRI, the more expensive the LED chip, and therefore the more expensive the product itself.

A LED strip light is a flexible circuit board that is populated with LEDs. Strip lighting allows you to install powerful, energy efficient, discreet lighting fixtures in places you normally wouldn’t be able to reach.

Yes, they can be cut to desired lengths.
46、If I cut down my LED lights, how do I then connect it to a Driver unit?
There are a few ways you can do this. Remember you will still have pieces of connector cable at one end of the led tape roll that you purchased which you can connect to a driver using U2.1FEM. Other than this you can either choose a connection cable; which involves a push on connector that the LED tape slides in to OR you can solder a cable directly onto the copper dots (to be performed by qualified electricians).
To choose your connection cable you will need to match the tape width with the connector. If you have an 8mm wide tape, you will need an 8mm wide connector. The same applies to 10mm wide tape.

47、How do I know which power supply to choose for my LED Tape?
To find out which power supply you need you can multiply the wattage of the tape by how many metres you will be using. For example, if your using a tape which draws 4.8w per metre and you will be using 3 metres, then you will need a power supply which is above 14.4w.
The wattage of the LED tape is written on our product descriptions.
You will also need to match the Voltage of the tape with the Voltage of the power supply, it will be either 12v or 24v.
48、 How do I connect my LED strip to the power supply?
There are several ways you can connect your LED Tape light to a power supply. Most of our Standard range power supplies include a Male DC connection on one end, to connect this to your tape you can use a U2.1FEM which converts the wires into aFemale DC connection. You can also use one of our AXIS-8C cables which integrate a Female DC plug.
Most of our premium power supplies feature Terminal connections. These can be unscrewed and the wires can be directly connected. The red wire is positive and the black negative.
49、What is the difference between 12v and 24v LED Tape?
12v is better for running small projects because you are able to cut the tape in more places as there are more copper dots. Most of our tape is 12v.
24v tape has advantages. It’s not brighter than 12v however it does suffer less from voltage drop and therefore it’s easier to run longer lengths.
50、 What is the difference between RGB and RGBW?
RGB stands for Red, Green and Blue ( the primary colours) If you paid attention in your physics lesson you will know that from the primary colours you can mix them to create almost any colour. RGB tape uses a special chip which combines the three primary colours and allows the user to adjust the tape to any colour you want using a controller (see controller section). Fantastic hues of colour can be produced in commercial and residential environments. We call RGB 3 channel, because it has Red, Green and Blue Channels. You will either need a three channel controller or a DMX with a 3 channel output to control your LEDs (see DMX controllers).
RGBW is the same as the above, but adds a Fourth Channel. The Fourth Channel is white. This allows you to have a perfect cool white or warm white output on the tape as well as the colours. This means you have to option to party and create crazy colour effects, but you can also relax or work under a nice cool white or warm white light (you can choose either). Great for events in kitchens, living rooms etc. We have two types: RGBWW and RGBCW depending if you want a warm white or cool white light.
51、I already have holes in my ceiling for my existing lights. Do I need to cut new ones?
Depending on what type of lamp you require. Retrofit plug-and-play lamps should fit into your existing lamp fixtures and connectors. If you require brighter LED lamps, which in turn require larger heat sinks, you may have to cut larger holes. Hole diameter should be displayed on the product specification.

54、Are LED lights dangerous?
Unlike fluorescent lights, LED lights do not contain mercury. They are manufactured without the use of hazardous materials and are in fact recyclable. LED lights also produce much less heat than incandescent lights and are safe to handle, even when they’ve been left on for a significant length of time.
Because of their much longer lifespan, they are perfect lighting for any location that is difficult to reach or high up. The less often someone must climb a ladder to change a bulb, the fewer the accidents!
55、Is LED light different than light from other sources?
LED light is a gentler, safer light. There is no flickering, no UV rays, and much less heat. LEDs are now produced in a variety of colors, from bright white to softer, indoor lighting. These choices weren’t available until relatively recently.

Yes, they are easy to install. In most cases you just plug the power supply in to the controller/dimmer (which then connects to the LED strip), and then plug the power supply into a normal outlet.

Yes, most of our controllers and strips are 12V DC so you can connect them straight to your battery (we recommend a 3-5A fuse in-line after the battery).

We recommend only connecting 2 rolls together in each direction from the supply wire (see strip section for more details).

79、What is DC?
This is Direct Current. Most LED strips on the market use low-voltage DC. A transformer or low-voltage battery is often required to step-down the AC voltage to a suitable level for the LED strips, which is normally 12V or 24V DC.

85、Can the strips be used in high temperature areas?
NO.While LEDs are quite durable and will work great i most any environment,heat is the main cause for shortened LED lifespan.Therefore,the cooler you can keep the LEDs,the longer they will last(if you can keep them below 80℃ you should get the rated life out of them).With this in mind.leaving them on for extended periods of time while on the reel or bunched up in a confined space will shorten them lifespan.

91、What is the lifespan of an LED?
An LED doesn’t burn out like a standard lamp so individual LEDs do not need to be ordinarily replaced. Instead the LED gradually produces lower output levels over a very long period of time.
LEDs from reputable manufacturers have an average rated life of 50000+ hours. When compared with Incandescents and CFLs under same usage and conditions an LED lamp could last for 15years before replacing.

Yes, LEDs love to be dimmed and unlike conventional lighting will actually extend the life of the LED.

93、Constant Current (CC) LED Drivers
CC LED drivers are designed to maintain a Constant Current during operation. A CC LED driver balances the output current from each channel to ensure reduced EMI interference and maintain the long lifetime of LEDs. The CC LED driver circuit allows the driver to operate in the ‘constant current region’ also ensuring there is no variation in the brightness of the LEDs. This means you do not have to use resistors or control the current being fed to the LEDs so they can be used in series as long as the forward voltage is within the specified output range of the LED power driver.
CC devices must be wired in series.
CC Led drivers are suitable for a wide range of applications including architectural lighting; task lighting; medical lighting; transportation lighting; lit signage; safety and security lighting and outdoor area lighting.
FRIWO’s range of LED drivers can be used in both CC and CV mode.
94、How far away can the driver be mounted from the LEDs?
To determine this you need to understand the voltage drop in the wiring between the LED driver and the LED module. Too much voltage drop can reduce the light output from the LED system. The acceptable distance is determined by the load and the conductor size. With Constant Voltage applications you are limited since the voltage is normally fixed at either 12V or 24V and with a significant drop in voltage you may visually be able to see the difference in light output.
With Constant Current drivers there is far more flexibility since the driver will automatically supply more voltage in order to provide the necessary current. The exception to this is if the LED module was already using the entire output voltage capability of the driver in which case the distance would be limited in a similar way to the Constant Voltage drivers.
95、What is the difference between Constant Voltage (CV) and Constant Current (CC) drivers?
With Constant Voltage the LED module only requires a fixed voltage often 12VDC or 24VDC. The current is usually regulated by either resistors that have been wired in series with the LEDs or by an on board/built in regulator that the LED module may have.
CV loads may be added in parallel across the output of the driver until the maximum output current is reached.
This arrangement is often used in installations where the number of LED modules being connected is unknown however may provide inconsistent Led performance and reduced life.
With Constant Current the reverse is true. The current is fixed by the driver whilst the voltage will vary depending on the load. The more LEDs that are attached the higher the output voltage will be up to a maximum set by the driver. This can provide uniform brightness and colour behaviour of the LEDs with no negative impact on LED Lifetime.
This methodology is usually used when the load/number of LEDs is known and you want to achieve optimal efficiency.
